Matem Private School: Foundation for Lifelong Excellence
At Matem Private School, we recognize that the first ten years of a child's life are the most critical for sensory, motor, and analytical wiring. We utilize a highly refined, playful, yet academically serious hybrid Nigerian-British curriculum designed to stir high cognitive alertness and early computational capability.
Classes are kept small (maximum of 20 pupils) to ensure our teachers can track every pupil's developmental progress. Under our custom ScratchJr and Scratch coding program, our pupils begin writing visual computer programs as early as Primary 2.
Creche (3m – 1.5 yrs)
Our secure, comfortable creche is structured with hygienic sensory toys, color coordinates, and soft baby gyms. Under standard, certified nursing care, babies develop auditory, verbal, and cognitive security.
Nursery School (1.5 – 5 yrs)
Focusing on letter pronunciations, motor control, early handwriting, mathematical symbols, social values, and French speech. We use the Montessori sensory method paired with phonics.
Primary 1 – 6 (Ages 5 – 11)
Accredited NERDC Basic Education curriculum. Covering English Studies, Mathematics, Nigerian Languages, Basic Science & Technology, Digital Literacy, History, Pre-vocational studies, Creative Arts, and Foreign Languages.
Approved Subjects & Curriculum Offerings
In strict compliance with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) revised basic and senior secondary education curriculum guidelines, Matem Schools delivers rigorous, accredited academic and vocational offerings.
Pupils take a minimum of 9 and maximum of 10 subjects. Religious Studies are taught distinctly (CRS for Christian pupils and Islamic Studies for Muslim pupils). Arabic Language is available as an optional language elective.
English Studies
Foundational comprehension, phonetics, spelling, reading fluency, and verbal communication.
Mathematics
Number work, basic operations, geometry, quantitative reasoning, and mental arithmetic.
Nigerian Languages (One Nigerian Language)
Mother tongue literacy and cultural heritage preservation (Yoruba / Igbo / Hausa).
Basic Science
Introductory scientific inquiry, living things, natural surroundings, and environmental observations.
Physical & Health Education (PHE)
Gross motor coordination, physical fitness exercises, personal hygiene, and safety rules.

Nigerian History
Early historical narratives, traditional kingdoms, national heroes, and Nigerian cultural heritage.
Social and Citizenship Studies
Civic responsibilities, community awareness, road safety, and social order.
Cultural & Creative Arts (CCA)
Drawing, pattern making, music, traditional crafts, folklore, and performance expressions.
